Center Flow Band Screen
Center Flow Band Screening with CenterMax®
The Huber Center Flow Band Screen is a highly efficient fine screening system designed for wastewater treatment plants. It features a continuous self-cleaning band screen with perforated or slotted panels arranged in a vertical loop. The center-flow design ensures optimal solids separation while minimising head loss and protecting downstream equipment.
The Centre flow band screen is available in widths ranging from 600 mm to 2400 mm with a maximum screen length of 10 m.
Main Features of the Centre Flow Band Screen
The HUBER Band Screen CenterMax is available in different designs and is suitable for numerous applications of solids/liquid separation.
- 4 sizes (chamber openings)
- Width of filter elements: 600 ‒ 2400 mm
- Maximum screen length: 10,000 mm (longer lengths available on request)
- Perforated plate: 1 ‒ 10 mm
- Star-type perforated plate: 1 ‒ 2 mm
- Mesh: 0.5 ‒ 1 mm
- Completely made of stainless steel, pickled in an acid bath
Screen Operation
The HUBER Center Flow Band Screen is designed for high separation efficiency, capturing fine particles, fibres, and hair while maintaining low head loss. Its centre-flow configuration ensures uniform flow distribution, reducing turbulence and improving solids retention. With a self-cleaning mechanism and robust construction, the screen provides reliable operation in municipal wastewater treatment applications, protecting downstream processes and reducing the load on subsequent treatment stages.
As wastewater enters the open front side of the screen, it flows through the screening elements on both the left and right sides (viewed in the flow direction). Solids are retained on the inner surface of the screening elements, gradually causing blinding, which affects the water level difference in the channel. Cleaning begins once the upstream water level reaches a set point, initiating the circulation of filter elements to transport screenings upward and out of the channel.
At the top of the screen, a spray nozzle bar directs water onto the outer surface of the filter elements, dislodging the captured solids. The washed-off solids are then flushed into an internal trough at the upper section of the screen, from where they are discharged by gravity.

Model Variations
CenterMax® PP – Perforated plate screen
The HUBER Band Screen CenterMax pp features a perforated plate with perforations ranging from 1 to 10 mm, providing high separation efficiency and effective retention of fibres and hair. Screens with 1 and 2 mm perforations are typically used for protecting hollow-fibre membrane filtration plants, ensuring reliable operation by preventing fine debris from reaching the membranes. For plate membrane filtration plants, a 3 mm perforation is commonly used, offering effective protection while maintaining optimal flow conditions.
CenterMax® Star – Folded perforated plate screen
The HUBER Band Screen CenterMax Star with a folded perforated plate is available with 1, 1.5, and 2 mm perforations, providing an increased screen surface for higher throughputs. This design ensures high separation efficiency and effective retention of fibres and hair. It is particularly suitable for protecting membrane filtration plants, preventing fine solids from reaching sensitive filtration systems and ensuring reliable operation.
CenterMax® Mesh – Square mesh screen
The HUBER Band Screen CenterMax mesh with mesh sizes ranging from 0.2 to 0.75 mm offers maximum separation efficiency, effectively reducing COD and BOD by 20–40%. This fine screening solution is ideal for load reduction in the preliminary treatment stage, serving as a high-performance alternative to primary settlement tanks. It is also well-suited for river and sea outfall applications, ensuring efficient solids removal and improved water quality.
