HYDAF Upgrade at Pattie’s Processing Site, Pakenham
Pattie’s Processing in Pakenham was operating an ageing DAF-based trade waste treatment system that had been in place for over 30 years. The system was underperforming due to outdated infrastructure, struggling with high flows and solids loads common in food processing. This resulted in inconsistent solids separation, rising operational costs, and compliance concerns with environmental discharge regulations.

Hydroflux was engaged to replace the outdated system with a high-performance HyDAF unit. The upgrade improved solids handling, efficiency, and energy use, incorporating advanced hydraulic and mechanical design, enhanced solids separation, and a modern control system for monitoring and simplified maintenance.
Hydroflux conducted a detailed site assessment to ensure the solution was tailored to Pattie’s needs. The system was installed in stages to minimise disruption, with engineers working closely with the site team to integrate the HyDAF into existing infrastructure.

The Results
The new system has delivered:
- Significant improvement in solids separation under high loads
- Reduced energy use and operational downtime
- Full compliance with discharge regulations
Long-Term Reliability
The HyDAF now provides a robust, cost-effective solution that meets the plant’s growing needs while ensuring efficiency and compliance into the future.
