Digester Pre-Thickener Package Awarded to Hydroflux for Woodman Pt WRRF

September 24, 2024

Western Australia’s largest wastewater treatment plant, Woodman Pt Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF), is currently being upgraded to increase the plant’s sludge treatment capacity to 120 tDS/day and to produce biosolids for soil conditioning plus biogas for energy use.

Hydroflux has been awarded the design, supply and commissioning supervision of the pre-digester sludge thickening package. Four new HUBER Rotary Screw Thickeners (SDRUM Size 4L) will be installed to thicken the primary sludge from 3% to 9% dry solids.

“This project award is significant as we will be replacing four HUBER Rotary Screw Thickeners that were built in 2001. Those machines will reach end of life in two years, to be replaced by the updated SDRUM® Size 4L units. Having commissioned the original units, it’s great to see this technology selected again for the same application, but this time with some different operating setpoints as the downstream process will include Thermal Hydrolysis. The existing units have proven their longevity, reliability and operational benefits” regards John Koumoukelis, CEO of Hydroflux.

HUBER SDRUM® is a mechanical sludge thickening technology that is used to thicken primary and secondary sludge from wastewater treatment plants. Its main application is to thicken sludge prior to anaerobic digestion and where thickened sludge concentrations of greater than 5% are required. The units have also been used as recuperative thickeners.
